Seismic blasting approved off Dongara!

Seismic blasting has just been approved off the coast of Dongara. In early 2026 Pilot Energy plan to conduct seismic blasting over a large area of pristine Mid west coastline. This is despite wide spread community backlash.

Marine life, local industry and residents will be impacted. The risks can not be managed.

The National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) have stated the risks are acceptable. This decision is based on limited science. We know our marine life is under immense pressure from marine heatwaves. We can’t be locking fishermen out while allowing destructive resource projects in!

Across Australia communities have been fighting the offshore oil and gas industry and NOPSEMA. Tin pot gas exploration cowboys have been kicked out of town by communities who kick back and band together. So that's what we are going to do!

We’re calling for a moratorium on all seismic blasting in WA waters.

Take action!

The sound can penetrate more than ten kilometres into the earth beneath the seafloor.

Despite invertebrates making up around 92% of marine species, the impact of marine noise on these creatures has only recently been studied. This has shown a potential for harm.

Independent research funded by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC) has also shown that valuable species such as the Western Rock Lobster can suffer substantial impacts from seismic activity, with research available to confirm Western Rock Lobster suffer from seismic blasts with examples of the blasts being so strong they make the lobster appear concussed and dazed.
